Milton began as a student of Miss Adler's in the late seventies. In 1988 she appointed him to teach at her Los Angeles Academy as well as selecting him the Artistic Director of the Stella Adler Theatre Company. He has taught the Stella Adler Technique at Yale, NYU, Unitec New Zealand, and he was Dean of the Institute of Creative Arts in Seoul, Korea, as well as giving masterclasses in London, Prague, Sydney, Berlin, Marseille, and Los Angeles– with a list of students that include Kevin Bacon, Mark Ruffalo, Kyra Sedgwick, Sean Astin, Salma Hayek, Benecio del Toro as well as having coached such actors as Patrick Stewart, Moira Tierney and Kathy Bates.

For his work in film and television he has received an Oscar, an Emmy award and five Golden Globe nominations. His theatre work earned him seventeen Los Angeles Theatre Critics’ Awards and two New York Drama Desk nominations. He is the author of I Don’t Need An Acting Class as well as host of the podcast of the same name – now in its sixth season.
